Family Gingerbread House Contest

By Blog, Home Organizing, Photos No Comments

Last night we set a time limit of 45 minutes to decorate two Gingerbread Houses.  It’s a contest between Guys and Gals.  Well, we were having so much fun that we were up till midnight decorating and coming up with design ideas – lots of fun had by everyone.

The guys team was made up of Dad, Darren, Glen, Damon.

Gals team was made up of Mom, Sherry, Stephanie & Saira.

The guys were getting very technical with all their power tools, strips of metal, needle nose pliers – yes, Darren was drilling holes in approximately 50 red and green M & M’s and then stringing them into a fence using a needle and thread (I didn’t know my brother could sew LOL).  They even constructed a chimney, cut out the front door and constructed an overhang with four posts.

They were almost finished when disaster hit – a tornado hit their house (at least that’s the story they are sticking to) and the left side of their roof completely slide off and broke some of their fence.  Santa even fell off the roof.  So they pulled out the drill and drilled holes into the roof and the side of the house and put reinforcements in (toothpicks) to hold the roof together.  These Kelowna Builders by trade – saved the day!

Gals had less dramatic weather conditions and around 11:45pm it snowed.  Saira, the expert snow maker, covered our entire house with a fresh layer of snow for a beautiful finishing touch.  Next year we want to add some glitter for sparkle!  We did have some issues putting up our wreath over the front door.  Mom created a beautiful red bow on the wreath, but we couldn’t get the heavy wreath to stay up, then the bow kept sliding off.  Stephanie saved the day with her brilliant idea to cut the back of the wreath so it wasn’t so heavy.  Finally, we were able to hang our wreath.

Everyone was having fun and of course…covered with icing and eating way too much candy too late at night!

So the contest is:

Travel Memorabilia

Is your travel memorabilia piling up around your home or office?  When you are organizing your keepsakes and travel memorabilia consider the following:

  • How much space do you need for your memorabilia?
  • How much time do you have to organize your memorabilia when you return from a trip?
  • How often do you actually look at your keepsakes?
  • Is journaling, and photography a passion of yours?
  • Do you love scrapbooking?
  • What is your ultimate purpose for your memorabilia?

The answers to these questions will help you determine what to keep and what to let go of.  A good rule of thumb is keep the best-of-the best and let the rest go!
